The Young Adult Institute (YAI) is an award-winning, not-for-profit health and human services agency whose mission is to build brighter futures for people with developmental and learning disabilities and their families. Their mission of maximizing members' potential is achieved through programs that build skills, expand opportunities, and enhance community living.

Young Adult Institute (YAI) Group PhotoFounded over 20 years ago, the Seido Karate YAI program develops members with increased confidence, greater self-awareness, physical conditioning and a dedicated environment of inclusion.  Seido, along with the YAI, believes that each person, regardless of their limitations, is entitled to the same respect and opportunities as any other member of society. Thus, we teach a majority of the Seido syllabus including Japanese terms as well as have YAI students promote through standard ranks and testing.  Students at Seido YAI  participate in all regular Seido events, including tournaments, demonstrations and special event training.

Current leadership includes Sensei Michael Baumgarten who has over 10 years of dedicated service to this program.  In addition, Sensei Michael leads a team of instructors and assistants who are skilled at bringing out the best in this diverse group.
