There's a lot to consider when trying something new. Seido makes it easier for you to see your options.

Free Intro Class
Beginner Classes
We are a serious martial arts school looking for highly motivated men and women who are interested in improving themselves both physically and mentally. At Seido Karate, the competition is with yourself, not with others. We are not concerned with whether you are better or worse than someone else. Our only goal is that each day, when you leave you are a little better than when you came. We provide you with the program, supervision, and atmosphere that will allow you to realize your full potential for growth and achievement.

Beginner Classes

When you start you attend special classes for beginners. These classes allow you to ease into the program slowly and safely. It is not necessary that you have any previous karate experience or that you are in good condition. You progress at a pace consistent with your ability and level of fitness. You are neither moved too fast nor held back. If you have previous experience or are in good physical condition you can progress more quickly. If you need more time to develop, you will not feel pressured. Everyone is treated as an individual.

After your first 15 lessons a couple new classes are added to your choice of when to train. The dojo has a wide variety of different levels and types of classes.

We also offer free, semi-private, 30-minute introductory classes (New York City, 23rd Street location only).

Physical Fitness

Seido Karate provides you with a complete program in physical conditioning. Our exercises are safe, effective, and tailored to your individual needs. Seido Karate Builds Strength Karate training utilizes virtually every muscle in your body. You notice new power and stamina as your entire body becomes firm and toned. Seido Karate develops flexibility and coordination. Our progressive stretching exercises will help you to develop and maintain a flexible, limber body. Tightness and stiffness in the muscles and joints will disappear. You will experience a new agility and coordination. Maintaining a limber, flexible body is an important ingredient in looking and feeling young.

Seido Meditation

Our program develops both the mind and the body. Seido Meditation is a time-proven method for developing a calm, focused mind. Through our meditation program, you will achieve the ability to concentrate more fully and think more clearly. Meditation is a part of every class. In addition, we have separate classes which include special mediation exercises and lectures given by Grandmaster Tadashi Nakamura. Our meditation, combined with our karate training develops a quality we call "Bushido Spirit." Bushido Spirit means non-quitting spirit. It is a special kind of self-discipline that can be applied to every aspect of one's life. Whether making career changes, going back to school, solidifying personal relationships, or improving work performance, our students have found their Seido Karate experience of great benefit.

Self Defense

Seido karate is one of the most effective and efficient forms of self defense available. You learn to use your entire body as a weapon, developing the ability to defend yourself against assailants much larger and stronger than yourself. Hand, elbow, knee, and foot techniques are taught based on their effectiveness and practical application in street situations. Men and women, old and young, have all found Seido Karate to be a practical solution to the dangers of increasing crime and violence. In today's society, your safety is your personal responsibility. Self-defense training is an insurance policy against the hazards of city living. Start now.
